Here you will find three distinct historical bridges. During the rainy season, the drive also reveals the seasonal Red River.

This traditional woven suspension bridge sits in the town of Checacupe. It uses the same building techniques as the famous Q'eswachaka bridge. You can walk across the historic woven ropes by paying a small fee to locals. Stop here to stretch your legs before continuing to the mountain.

Spanish builders constructed this stone bridge in the 17th century. It sits directly next to the Inca suspension bridge. You can compare the architectural differences between the town's historical and modern bridges. Walking between them takes just a few minutes.

Mineral runoff turns this seasonal river in the Pitumarca valley a distinct red color. You will only see the red water if you visit during the rainy season from December to March. During the dry season, the river runs its normal color. The river is visible from the road as you drive.

This scenic stop breaks up the long drive from Cusco. It offers wide views over the lush Andean valleys. Use this stop to stretch your legs and use the basic restrooms. The final ascent up the dirt road begins shortly after this point.
